Conventions that are purely online, unlike physical conventions and hybrid conventions.
Dozens of virtual conventions have been held virtually since 2020, the ones that make good case studies include
- CoNZealand (physical turned virtual at short notice)
- Boskone 58 ran well
- Octocons 2020 and 2021, made free, ran well
- Picocon 38 ran well
- Punctuation 1 & 2 planned as virtual, ran very smoothly
- Columbus 2020 NASFiC
- ConFusion (Eastercon) ambitious VR plans worked poorly.
- DisCon III Star crossed hybrid Worldcon
