I don't know why I'm here

'"I don't know why I'm here" -- the scourge of the programming department.

If you are planning Programming, one of the things to consider is how to avoid ending up with panelists on panels who say they don't know why they're there, which is really just shorthand for "I don't think I have anything to say on this topic and the programming person either knows nothing about me, thought I was someone else, or was smoking something really fun when they put together the program."

There are two steps for planning your program that can help avoid this problem:

  1. Do a good job matching panelists to topics
  2. Write a nice Panel Blurb that clarifies what the panel is about while also making it sound like a damn fine panel to be on.
