OryCon is a regional convention held in Portland, Oregon. It is a fan-run, non-profit convention presented by Oregon Science Fiction Conventions Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation.
The forerunner to OryCon, The Symposium (AKA Orycon 0) was held November 11, 1978. Approximately 125 people attended the one-day event chaired by Debbie Cross and held at Portland State University.
The first OryCon came the next year and featured John Varley, Steve Perry and Richard Geis as Guests.
Successive OryCons were identified by the year in which they were held, except for the fifth one, which was designated OryCon V. In 1988, the naming scheme changed to OryCon 10, and that pattern has held since.
